Grounding line retreat in the Amundsen Sea

Supervisory team: Professor Andy Shepherd (University of Leeds), Professor Tony Payne (University of Bristol), and Professor Tim Wright (University of Leeds)

This fully-funded studentship is part of the UK NERC Antarctic Ice Sheet Stability (iSTAR) research programme, and primary supervision will be provided by Professor Andy Shepherd who is leading the iSTAR-D consortium. Co-supervision will be provided by Professors Tony Payne and Tim Wright of the Universities of Bristol and Leeds, respectively. The overall aim of the PhD is to extend a suite of satellite measurements developed at the Pine Island Glacier within iSTAR to encompass the neighbouring Thwaites and Smith Glacier systems, allowing the wider imbalance of the Amundsen Sea sector to be characterised.  

The PhD is for 3.5 years (42 months), and funding is provided by the NERC. The student is expected to start no later than September 2013, and the deadline for applications is 7 June.
