The Open University is one of the UK’s most respected national institutions. Since it opened to students in 1971, it has been inspiring learning and creating higher educational opportunities to all who wish to realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential, whatever their previous academic attainments. It has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching and confirmed its enormous reach through its use of open educational resources.
The Finance Division is looking for a proactive and self-starting indirect taxation specialist (Chartered Institute of Taxation). Do you have the skills and experience to meet the challenge of managing the indirect tax affairs of a complex, partially-exempt organisation?
You will provide advice and guidance on a wide range of indirect taxation issues across the University. You will be expected to originate and develop practical solutions to issues, become the University’s expert on indirect taxation matters and take responsibility for negotiations with VAT officers and ensure that the implications for other taxes are taken into account.
In addition to relevant work experience, you should have strong negotiating and communication skills including the ability to engage with, and present solutions to, senior non-finance staff. You must be able to work independently and provide operational and strategic direction and leadership, and be willing to undertake a diverse and demanding workload.
This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity for a strongly motivated candidate wanting to contribute to the on-going success of the University.
