Job Summary
Thanks to the generous donation of Peter and Susan Cheney, the University of Leeds is proud to launch the Cheney Fellowships scheme.
The scheme will enable talented researchers working in Water Research or Medical Technologies, to undertake a period of research at the University of Leeds. During this time they can spend time thinking, talking, collaborating and developing new ideas with academic colleagues, including staff and research students.
Applicants from a wide variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply so are candidates from both within and outside of academia.
Fellows will be paid a salary, although alternative arrangements (for example visiting academic status) can be considered on a case by case basis. Additional funding may also be available to support you in your move or to fund research costs.
Successful candidates may be employed by another institution at the time of application but will seek temporary leave of absence to undertake the Fellowship.
Two types of Cheney fellowship are available:
• Cheney Early Career Fellowships - for applicants with less than 6 years experience post PhD.
• Cheney Senior Fellowships - for applicants with greater than 6 years experience post PhD.
Potential fellowship holders are invited to submit a copy of their CV and a statement (up to two pages) stating whether they are applying for an Early Career Fellowship or a Senior Fellowship and describing how they would meet the broad objectives and selection criteria outlined above.
A short-listing process will be undertaken, after which candidates may be approached to submit further information or to discuss their candidacy further with the lead academic in the relevant academic field.
The start dates for the fellowship scheme are flexible, but it is anticipated that the fellowships will commence in the autumn of 2013.
