The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath is internationally recognised as one of the UK’s leading centres of sustainable building design.
The Department wishes to appoint a high calibre academic in the key strategic area of Building Physics/Building Environmental Design. This is a challenging time to be leading developments in building design and contributions are needed from many fields of knowledge. The Department is particularly keen to appoint a candidate who can apply strong engineering and science in a broad interdisciplinary context, and in creative and imaginative ways.
The post holder will demonstrate a strong vision of the future role of environmental design and its complementarity with passive design principles.
Candidates should hold a PhD, and be developing an international reputation for high quality publication backed up by appropriate research funding for Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) grade, with that international reputation well established for Reader (Associate Professor) grade. The successful applicant will be expected to obtain funding and carry out and supervise research in the field of Low Carbon Design, contributing to the work of the Department. The post holder will be a member of the established research unit Energy and Design of Environments (EDEn). You will be expected to develop, largely through external funding, a research team within EDEn.
All candidates will be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You should therefore be willing to demonstrate a continuing commitment to maintaining the Faculty’s high standards in teaching and learning with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest students in the country. Due to the joint nature of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, collaborative, integrated design is central to our studio teaching across all disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute effectively in this regard, so that design experience at (or near) registration and/or chartered level would be an advantage along with current knowledge of the regulatory framework for building design.
Other duties will depend upon the background of the post holder.
Informal enquiries about the post may be made to Prof David Coley(+44 (0) 1225 385531, email d.a.coley@bath.ac.uk), Head of EDEn.
