The Department

Whilst the University of Kent has no academic music department at its Canterbury Campus, the University has a flourishing programme of music making; students of all subjects, together with staff and the local community have the opportunity to get involved in the wide-range of extra-curricular music activities. As well as the many concerts in the Colyer-Fergusson Hall, there are also opportunities each year to perform in other venues including Canterbury Cathedral. Music Department events range from major choral/orchestral concerts, big band, chamber music, jazz to rock, world and folk, and feature both University and professional performers. Around 35 students receive University Music Scholarships each year and workshops are held with visiting musicians.

The Music Department is based in the Colyer-Fergusson Music Building, following its completion in Autumn 2012. It adjoins the University’s Gulbenkian Theatre and Cinema, which offers a wide and vibrant range of high quality arts events to the public, staff and students, to create an exciting Arts Hub at the centre of the Canterbury Campus.
