Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the research group of Dr Suman Peel to investigate the mechanism of membrane scission by the ESCRT-III family of proteins.
This project aims at addressing the mechanism of membrane scission by the ESCRT-III family of proteins by building an integrated measurement/control platform capable of (i) fluorescence imaging with single molecule sensitivity, (ii) pulling membrane tethers from black lipid membranes and (iii) voltage clamping. This platform will enable us to reconstitute and monitor the recruitment of the ESCRT-III family of proteins to membrane tethers and follow concomitant membrane neck narrowing with an exceptional degree of spatio-temporal precision. In vitro reconstitution of these processes will require preparation and handling of different biological/biochemical samples, you will therefore closely collaborate with the (Bio)chemists in the group. Previous experience with commissioning and building microscopic equipment, interfacing them and an aptitude for interdisciplinary research is essential.
You will join our exceptionally well-equipped laboratory located in the School of Physics. This 24 month position is funded by The European Research Commission with the possibility of a further one year extension.
For informal enquiries please contact Dr Suman Peel on 0117 331 7786 (Suman.Peel@bristol.ac.uk)
It is expected that interviews will be held in early July 2013.
