Clinical Professor of Surgery
Queen's University Belfast -School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences
Ref: 13/102632
At Queen’s, we are building on our substantial reputation with a focussed and ambitious plan to establish an internationally recognised School and Institute of Health Sciences that will have a global impact on medical, dental and biomedical research and education.
The School’s aim is to drive discovery, innovation and the development of novel targeted therapies and to create a unique fusion of clinical and basic science research, underpinned by clinical and scientific leaders of national and international repute.
Over the last five years, the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) has brought together clinical and scientific research teams in dedicated high quality research centres. Most recently, £32m has been raised to establish a new Centre for Experimental Medicine, due to open in 2015. This new centre will promote research excellence in Experimental Medicine acting as an integrative hub, interlinking the various research elements of the IHS and driving the invention and development of novel therapeutic compounds and molecular diagnostic tools through discovery science. As part of the development of the IHS there has also been very significant investment in clinical infrastructure to support clinical trials. This includes a UK Clinical Research Collaboration registered Clinical Trials Unit and a Wellcome Trust - Wolfson Clinical Research Facility (CRF) which is based within the Health Sciences campus.
Over the last eighteen months our on-going campaign has already demonstrated success with the appointment of a significant number of international Chairs in a range of clinical and scientific disciplines.
To further support this vision we wish to appoint academic staff, particularly clinical academics who have the expertise, motivation and know-how to contribute to the continued development of a global School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences.
