Postdoctoral Research Assistant
University of Oxford -Department of Engineering Science
Begbroke Science Park, Yarnton, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.
A position is available for an experienced postdoctoral chemist to work on a project funded by EPSRC to exploit and accelerate the development of novel, patented, nanoparticles. The position is fixed-term until 31 July 2014 and will be based primarily at the Universitys Begbroke Science Park, Oxford.
This is a collaborative project with Johnson Matthey Plc. (JM), based near Reading and will focus on the scale-up of nanoparticle synthesis by Flame Spray Pyrolysis (FSP). The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with scientists at JM and provide feedback on the efficacy of the synthesised particles.
The PDRA will be expected to assist in physico-chemical characterisation of the particles. (S)he will also test the nanoparticles for X-ray specific cell death using immortalised cancer cell lines. They will also prepare scientific reports and papers, present findings to conferences and assist with the running of the laboratory including co-supervising students.
Candidates should possess a PhD in a relevant subject, have experience of practical laboratory techniques and be able to work on a collaborative project. Prior experience of nanoparticle synthesis would be desirable, and an interest in cell biology and applying nanotechnology to healthcare.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Helen Townley (email: helen.townley@eng.ox.ac.uk).
Only online applications received before midday on 31 May 2013 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter, a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV, and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
