EAP (UG) Presessional Programme
University of Birmingham -English for International Students Unit
Teachers required for small group teaching on the following intensive academic English course:
10-week: 15 July-20 September (induction:11-12 July) EAP(UG) 2013/10
6-week: 12 August – 20 September (induction: 8-9 August) EAP(UG) 2013/6
Essential
Experience
- substantial English language teaching experience, ideally in EAP or a related field at tertiary level
Qualifications
- a Masters in a TEFL-related area with observed teaching practice or
- a diploma in English teaching/PGCE with substantial TEFL component or
- a diploma-level qualification as defined in section 4.2 of the British Council’s Accreditation UK handbook http://www.britishcouncil.org/2010-11_accreditation_handbook-new.pdf (pp.46-48)
Desirable
- A post-graduate degree in any discipline.
- Experience of teaching English overseas and/or EAP experience in: Social Sciences, Government and Politics, Engineering, Science, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences.
Main Duties:
- full-time teaching English for Academic Purposes
- teaching approximately 19 timetabled hours per week
- conducting weekly one-to-one tutorials
- lesson preparation, marking and writing student reports
- attending the induction programme, weekly meetings and workshops
Salary
Your basic salary will be at the rate of £620.54 per week; you will also be entitled to claim 12% per week in lieu of holiday, bringing the total weekly amount to £695.00. The induction programme is payable at the daily rate of £125.00, plus 12% in lieu of holiday, bringing the total to £140.00 per day.
Subsidised, en-suite, University self-catering accommodation is available upon request.
