Job Purpose
To undertake and support research for the BBSRC-funded sLoLa grant programme: “A platform for rapid and precise DNA module rearrangements in Synthetic Biology.”
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To take a leading role in carrying out research and other duties in consultation with and under the guidance and direction of Principal Investigator Prof. Marshall Stark and Co-investigator Prof. Susan Rosser. This research will involve development and optimization of site-specific recombinase methodologies for gene assembly in E. coli, yeast and other microbial organisms, and use of these methodologies to assemble metabolic pathways in close liaison with our industrial partner Ingenza Ltd.
2. To lead in writing up research findings/outcomes for publication in appropriate journals, in consultation with Profs. Stark and Rosser.
3. To lead in presenting research results at appropriate internal and public meetings/conferences.
4. To collaborate with other members of Prof. Stark’s and Prof. Rosser’s research groups, the other Co-investigators on the sLoLa grant, staff at Ingenza Ltd., and external collaborators, in order to develop the sLoLa grant-funded project and related research.
5. To contribute to drafting of applications for further funding, in consultation with Prof. Stark and Prof. Rosser.
6. To support colleagues and supervise less experienced members of Prof. Stark’s laboratory, including undergraduate and postgraduate students.
7. To keep up to date with developments in the research field, and apply this knowledge to the research activity.
8. To contribute to the safe and well organized functioning of Prof. Stark’s laboratory.
9. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2020 – A Global Vision

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £32,267 - £36,298 per annum.
This post is funded for 3 years.
New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.
All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
