The Department of Government is one of the leading political science departments in Europe. Working on electoral and party research, political economy, international relations and conflict, and political theory, the department seeks to further develop and broaden its research strengths and offers a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Comparative Politics, Public Policy or Political Economy.  We are especially interested in candidates conducting empirical research in the areas of economic, social or environmental policies.

You will contribute to the teaching at all levels, conduct individual and collaborative research projects and supervise students.  You will also contribute to the successful administration and management of the department.  In addition at Senior Lecturer level, you will take the lead in developing modules, provide research support and publish high quality research in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals.

Candidates should have completed a PhD in political science and already have publications in leading general political science and excellent field journals.  For Lecturer level appointments you should possess the demonstrable potential to generate external funding and have potential for excellence in teaching.  For Senior Lecturer appointments candidates should have proven research excellence as demonstrated by a substantial number of high quality publications in leading journals and proven excellence in teaching.

The Department of Government, ranked first in the United Kingdom in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, has approximately 30 full time members of staff and is in a period of moderate expansion.  Generous support to junior academics is available in the form of seed money for research projects, travel funds, a generous teaching buyout scheme for successful grant holders, and a research leave policy that is internationally competitive.

Salary in the range: £37,382-£53,233 per annum
