Job Description
Job Summary and Purpose:
The Department of Earth Sciences at Durham University is looking to recruit a Lecturer in geodynamics for a fixed-term period of 3 years. He or she will be free to follow their research interests in geodynamics and related research fields, while participating in a number of different teaching activities at undergraduate level. These include the preparation and delivery of lectures and practicals to undergraduates in geodynamics and numerical modelling, delivery of undergraduate tutorials, supervision of undergraduate level dissertations, and assessment of student work.
Requirements
Applicants will have a background in geodynamics and numerical modelling and some experience with teaching, the ability to relate to students, and are fluent in the English language. In addition, they are able to develop a research program that fits within the broad framework of the Geodynamics research group at Durham.

Responsibilities
- Teach modules in a variety of settings, for example, through lectures, tutorials, practical classes, field schools etc., and prepare or update associated teaching materials
- Assess students’ academic work and provide feedback.
- To provide general teaching-related administrative support.
- To carry out research in the broad area of geodynamics and to disseminate research findings by means of scientific publications and presentation at international conferences.
- To engage in administrative duties and committee membership within the Department and other duties commensurate with the nature and the grade of the post as required by the Head of Department.
