Post Doctoral Research Assistant

Purpose and Main Duties A part-time (60%) Post-doctoral Research positionis available (with funding from the Leverhulme Trust). The post is associated with a research project on humanitarian communication. That is, public understanding and reactions to campaigns, appeals and information generated by aid and other humanitarian organizations. This is a collaborative project between Birkbeck and the London School of Economics.
As a research assistant, you should have administrative and research experience and abilities. The administrative work includes secretarial tasks and helping to organize the project, including minute taking, dealing with research expenses and the end of year financial report, and organise the project’s Knowledge Exchange events. The research aspect includes literature search and writing literature reviews, contributing to the methodological setting up of data collection, interviewing, data transcription and analysis, and contributing to report writing. You should have successful experience of multi-tasking and working to deadlines.
You will have completed a PhD in Psychology, Sociology, or related social science areas and should have knowledge of and experience in applying qualitative research methods, in particular BNiM. Current knowledge, experience and/or interest in humanitarian issues is highly desirable.

The position will start on 1 June 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Since the funding is strictly time-limited, a later start date would mean a corresponding reduction in the duration of the contract.
