The Preliminary Year Programme is offered to students in their first year of study at UNNC and represents 120 academic credits. The programme is currently a 50-50 split between modules focusing on specific academic subjects, and modules focusing on the development of English Language skills. Successful completion of the Preliminary Year is a pre-requisite for progression to the second year of study. In terms of the academic subject level, it is broadly comparable to that of UK ‘A’ level.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in English Language & Literature.
Preliminary Year tutors are primarily involved in the delivery of a portfolio of credit-bearing modules to students enrolled on undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC). However, dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there is also scope for their involvement in projects such as the design and delivery of summer schools and other bespoke training packages.
Candidates should hold at least a Bachelors’ degree in English Language & Literature or a related field, have recognised QTS (qualified teacher status), as evidenced by an appropriate PGCE or other professionally accredited qualification, and have demonstrable experience of full-time teaching in English Language & Literature.
Salary will be within the range RMB 324,810 - RMB 387,840 per annum (pro rata), depending on skills and qualifications; salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. This post is available from 2 September 2013 initially to be offered on fixed-term contracts with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo China for periods of up to five years. Contracts may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
