If you are established in clinical practice and are passionate about educating tomorrow’s doctors please follow the link below for more information.
We are looking for 2 new Educational Facilitators to be involved with 1st year students on the York campus. Our Educational Facilitators are a vital part of Phase 1 for HYMS undergraduate students; in addition to facilitating PBL sessions and teaching core clinical skills, they take a key role in the students` personal and professional development during this time. As well as an enthusiasm for teaching and developing skills in our students, we are looking for clinicians who will inspire students to achieve their best, both academically and professionally, providing strong role models for their subsequent development.
Successful applicants will be keen enthusiastic clinicians who are keen to develop their educational role; many will not already have experience of PBL or higher educational qualifications, but we welcome applications from those who are willing to develop these in the future.
Applicants will need to commit to 2 fixed sessions per week, on Monday & Thursday afternoons, for PBL/Clinical Skills facilitation during the Phase1 academic term. We expect tutors to commit to all dates within the academic terms. Tutors are expected to contribute an additional extra half session/week for preparatory work, paid for within the contract. Corresponding lighter work is required outside academic terms; the overall annualised commitment is 0.2 FTE.
Our Educational Facilitators (PBL/Clinical Skills Tutors) are under the direct line management of the Lead Phase 1 Core Curriculum Tutor on each HYMS site; they are given support regarding tutoring roles and student support, and ensure that these extra sessions can be fulfilled undertaking annual appraisals. The PBL Director and the Lead Tutors also organise a robust programme of training, peer support and observation.
The 0.2 FTE contracted work comprises roughly:
- A fixed number of actual PBL/Clinical Skills sessions = 54 sessions per annum (27 weeks)
- Preparation for PBL sessions = 13.5 sessions
- Additional time to contribute to wider HYMS curriculum development (review, assessment, evaluation, admissions etc) = 10 sessions
- Additional time for CPD/staff development related to this post = 2 sessions
Training will be given and is scheduled for two full days on Friday, 28th June 2013 (PBL Facilitation) and Monday, 15th July 2013 (Clinical Skills) to be held in the HYMS building at York University.
