Established as a Special Health Board on 1st April 2002, NES is responsible for managing education, training and lifelong learning in NHS Scotland. NES currently operates a Pre-registration Pharmacist Scheme (PRPS) and places are available for Pre-registration Pharmacist trainees in posts commencing in July/August 2014.

The Scheme offers pre-registration pharmacists training in Scotland a unique and broad experience covering both hospital and community practice, and has the purpose of ensuring that all pharmacists are prepared in a way that allows them to use their clinical skills to serve patients and the NHS.

Trainees will be responsible for the delivery of the agreed standard of pharmaceutical care for the identified patient population, safely, effectively and within the defined limits of responsibility, resources and activity.

The job purpose is to ultimately achieve registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Achieving the specified performance standards will enable trainees to do this.

Possessing a Masters degree in Pharmacy, or equivalent, upon appointment, you must possess an awareness of medicines use in major therapeutic areas. You will be an articulate and organised individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a proven commitment to continuing professional development. Excellent numeracy skills are essential for this post, and you must be able to plan and prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines. A team player, you will also be able to work on your own initiative, building positive working relationships with colleagues and patients and with a person-centred focus.

Interviews for all the above posts will be held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th September 2013 at a central location.
