Camborne School of Mines (CSM) is one of the world’s most famous multidisciplinary mining schools. It currently has 300 undergraduate and post graduate taught and research students in mining engineering, minerals engineering, geology, geotechnics, surveying, and environmental geochemistry, and some 35 full and part time academic and technical staff. CSM enjoys the support of the CSM Trust and the CSM Association of alumni, which has members in over 30 countries. It has excellent industry links with both multinational and local companies and receives research funding from the European Union, industry and a range of UK research councils.
CSM is currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and we are seeking to appoint a new Head of CSM to take over from Professor Frances Wall, at the end of her successful term of office in autumn 2013, to grow and sustain the school’s success in delivering research and educational excellence related to the extractive industries.
CSM is one of four distinct disciplinary units that make up the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, which has activities on both the Streatham and Tremough campuses of the university. The College is making sustained investment in both academic staff and infrastructure to provide a catalyst for significant growth in both research activity and student experience.
The successful applicant will be a leading international figure who combines world-class research in mining and minerals engineering with vision and innovation, leadership and management skills. We seek a strong track record of research funding and international quality publications, with the ability to attract world-class academics to the research groups. Experience in teaching and curriculum development is also important to lead the educational role of CSM.
Applicants are encouraged to contact the Dean of the College, Prof Ken Evans (tel: 01392 723645, email: K.E.Evans@exeter.ac.uk) to discuss the post further. You may also wish to consult our web site at www.exeter.ac.uk/csm for further details.
The closing date for completed applications is 10th June 2013.
