IT/AV Technician

This post is fixed term for 12 months (initially) and part time.

The post holder is a member of the team responsible for the technical support of IT and audio-visual (AV) equipment on the Canterbury campus of the University of Kent. This includes the operational and trouble-shooting support of equipment in the University of Kent teaching spaces, student PC rooms and staff offices.

The normal hours of work will be 21.3 hours per week (0.6fte) undertaken between the hours of 2pm and 6.15pm, Monday to Friday. The post holder will be expected to cover University events during term-time in the evening up to 8pm for which overtime will be paid. There may also be occasional weekend working for which overtime can be paid.

The Person

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of supporting and maintaining audio-visual (AV) equipment, and experience of preparing for and making audio and video recordings. You will need a good working knowledge of AV operations and equipment as well as good working knowledge of PC installation and configuration.

The Department

Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department. JISC RSC South East are also located within the department and provide services to the JISC and wider educational community.

A strong emphasis is placed on user support and all provision is targeted as closely as possible to user needs. In line with the University’s strategic direction on information management, further emphasis is now being placed on the importance of increased electronic information provision, with a view to making more effective provision in some areas and developing new provision in others.
