Job Description

The Chemistry Department at Durham University is one of the UK's leading departments, set in a flourishing research-led University. Our undergraduate intake is amongst the best qualified in the country, and we top national league tables in terms of student employability. Our research interests span the range of chemical sciences, with particular emphasis on collaborative inter-disciplinary work via Durham's Research Institutes and Centres, http://www.dur.ac.uk/research/institutes/. We wish to appoint two members of academic staff (one Lecturer and one Professor) to strengthen our activities in inorganic chemistry. Successful candidates will have a strong track record of success in their respective fields, will be able to make use of the superb facilities at Durham, and will both align with and complement our existing research strengths.

Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry: we seek individuals with an excellent research record in chemistry, particularly people able to continue our tradition in sustainable chemistry and catalysis, main group chemistry, functional materials or structural chemistry, and able to teach within the area of inorganic chemistry.

Salary for a Lecturer will be between £30,424 - £36,298 (Grade 7) or between £37,382 - £44607 (Grade 8)

Job Summary and Purpose:

Teaching and Research in Inorganic Chemistry

We seek individuals with an excellent research record in chemistry capable of making outstanding contributions to both research and teaching. The successful candidate's research will be aligned with one of the Department’s six research groupings (http://www.dur.ac.uk/chemistry/research/research_groupings/), and will exploit the research infrastructure available in the Department. The candidate will be expected to undertake and publish original research of the highest level, to apply for external funding, to contribute to the research activities of the department as a whole, and to undertake teaching and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department. We are particularly interested in candidates capable of contributing to our areas of current research strength including sustainable chemistry and catalysis, main group chemistry, functional materials or structural chemistry. Further interaction with the University’s world class Research Institutes and Centres is highly desirable. You will have a commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly in the area of inorganic chemistry.
