Web Consultant

The Role
This is a fixed term role for 12 months
The main purpose of the role is to provide consultancy to the University and University departments on their web presence needs, to project manage web design and developments, supervise part time staff in the delivery of solutions, and to provide customer advice and support services to University web publishers and developers.
The focus of the role is on client liaison and consultation, identifying web requirements, negotiating requirements, deadlines, and costs, drawing up agreements to define these, planning, managing, and successfully delivering projects, and providing an ongoing consultative service during a project and an ongoing client account management service.
The Person
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent with proven professional experience working in a consultative roleand working in a web content, development, design, or web services environment. With professional experience of supervising technical or non technical staff you will also have experience of supervising design productions, writing for the web, rich content provision, website production, or technical developments. You will have good broad knowledge of writing for the web, rich content provision, copy editing, quality assurance,web design, information architecture, and web development and technology and an expert level of knowledge in at least one of these. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills working and negotiating with customers and clients with excellent communication skills both written and verbal, including clear and effective presentation skills and the ability to produce clear and concise written material.

The Department
Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department. Two JISC services (JISC Monitoring Unit and JISC RSC South East) are also located within the department and provide services to the JISC and wider educational community.
