Main Description
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs. Over the last few years BAS has developed a computer model of the Earth’s electron radiation belts that is now used to produce real-time forecasts of the high-energy electron population (www.fp7-spacecast.eu).
We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant for a short fixed term appointment to develop software to integrate the BAS Radiation Belt Model with the BAS Space Weather database. Software will be developed to automatically create input data files for the BAS Radiation Belt Model and to produce graphical displays for the visualisation of model results.
Qualifications: Degree in Physics, applied Maths or a relevent subject
Duration: Fixed term appointment until 31st March 2014
Salary: Salary will be in the range of £26,450 to £29,710 per annum. We offer a generous benefits package including a defined salary pension scheme, free car parking, flexible working hours and 30 days annual leave.
