Non-clinical PhD Studentship

University of Bristol -Biomedical Research Unit in Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle

University of Bristol and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust

Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

A funding initiative by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has established the Bristol Nutrition Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) as a partnership between University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Bristol. The overall aim of the BRU is to translate knowledge derived from our work on causal associations in nutrition, drawn from population and clinical studies, to develop interventions to improve the health of people with conditions related to (or compromised by) poor or sub-optimal nutrition.

The BRU has established a 3 year PhD programme in Health Economics to study the economic costs of childhood and adolescent obesity. This programme of research is intended to provide the student with a broad research training in different research methods and statistics, preparing the student for a variety of post-doctoral options upon its completion.

All of your studies (apart from attendance at specialist courses, international meetings or working with collaborators elsewhere) will be at the University, which is near the centre of Bristol, a vibrant and leading UK city.

The BRU provides support for three years and includes a stipend, PhD registration fees at UK/EU student rate, research expenses, travel and transferable-skills training.

Entry Requirements: Applicants should be in possession of (or anticipating) at least an upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
