Description  The University of Gloucestershire has made a strategic commitment to the long-term development of a Business School within the Faculty of Business, Education and Professional Studies. The Faculty operates as a federal structure, with the Institute of Education and Public Services and the new Business School.

As part of this strategic commitment, the area of Retail Marketing and Management has been identified as an area for investment. The intent is to create a strong, internationally recognised group with profile in research, engagement with stakeholder groups and effective programme delivery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This newly-created chair is part of this commitment.

The new professor will be expected to advance their subject internationally, contribute to developing the Business School as an international centre of excellence in Retailing through research, publication, stakeholder engagement and teaching. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other colleagues in the Retail, Marketing and Management Group.

The Business School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified individual who will make a major contribution to the on-going development of the activities of the new School. Although disciplinary background is not a key factor, it is essential that the expertise and interests of the candidate align generally with the work of the Business School and in particular those of members of the Retail, Marketing and Management Group.

Postgraduate education is well developed in the Business School, and the candidate will contribute to research student supervision and taught courses. Consistent with the level of appointment, the candidate is also expected to contribute to the leadership and development activities across the School and wider Faculty, setting an example for other colleagues.

A significant outcome of the role will be the development and success of a new collaboration between the University and the Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership. The Business School, alongside the Universitys Business Development Unit, is working closely with the LEP, which has achieved Pathfinder status for Retail, to develop a joint strategy for economic growth in the region. The successful candidate will be a significant driver of this initiative.
