Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an interdisciplinary research team led by the School of Medicine at NUI Galway. The position is a fixed-term, full-time contract until 28 November 2014, starting as soon as possible.
Context:
The Irish Health Research Board (HRB) has awarded funding for 3 years to Professor Fidelma Dunne (School of Medicine), Dr. Liam Glynn (Discipline of General Practice), Dr. Brian McGuire (School of Psychology) and Professor Ciaran O’Neill (School of Economics) to conduct an exciting piece of research in the area of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). The project is halfway through implementation now, thus there are approximately 1.5 years of project funding remaining. The research focuses on screening for GDM; conversion of women with GDM to pre-diabetes and/or Type 2 Diabetes; and on lifestyle modification intervention to prevent Type 2 Diabetes following GDM. Each piece of clinical research has psychological and socioeconomic evaluations embedded within it. Applications are invited from researchers with a PhD relevant to the research themes – clinical medicine, primary care, health promotion, health psychology, behavioural medicine, biostatistics, or related areas.
Main responsibilities:
In collaboration with the other postdoctoral researchers, the candidate will:
- coordinate and monitor the implementation of two clinical trials, including participant recruitment and assessment
- undertake semi-structured, qualitative interviews
- conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses
- present study results at meetings and conferences
- write reports and journal articles
- provide regular feedback on study implementation to the larger team
- potentially assist with proposal/grant writing for follow-on projects
Essential criteria for selection:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- flexibility and capacity to work in an interdisciplinary environment
- excellent written and oral communication skills (fluent English essential)
- impeccable organisation skills
Desirable criteria for selection:
- prior experience working on clinical trials
- a track record of (or clear potential for) publication in international peer-reviewed journals

Salary: €38,286 - €53,981 (Public sector pay policy pertaining to new entrants will apply)
