We are seeking a full time Operations Manager within the Dalton Nuclear Institute. The position will be based at the new Dalton Cumbrian Facility (DCF), located at the Westlakes Science & Technology Park in West Cumbria. You will lead a team supporting all aspects of activities involved in the safe operation and maintenance of the DCF, and thereby providing an effective environment for conducting world-leading academic research and post-graduate level training. The role of this job is two-fold:

To proactively manage delivery of the full range of capabilities at the Dalton Cumbrian Facility, including liaising with the University’s Estates function as owners of the property and other areas of Professional Support Services as required to maintain and where possible improve the operational readiness and highest levels of availability of both the facility and its equipment, and

To manage and oversee delivery of the highest standards of workplace health and safety through the maintenance of safe working systems and practices at all times, as befitting a world-class irradiation research facility designed to accommodate a wide range of academic and post-graduate level researchers from UK and international universities.

You will have at least Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent experience in a scientific or engineering discipline. You will also hold or be working towards a NEBOSH National General Certificate. Experience in facilities management together with excellent general management skills is also essential. Good time management, organisational, IT and communication skills and a successful track record of delivery in a team environment with multiple competing demands are also expected.
