The Health and Social Care Institute (HSCI) at Teesside University aims to create an environment that promotes, supports, and develops high quality research on health and social care topics. The Institute is completely dedicated to interdisciplinary research across the University and in partnership with external groups and bodies. The preparation and dissemination of high quality research outputs at an international level are key elements of HSCI.
You will work as part of a research team on a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of sedentary behaviour interventions on body mass index and body composition in children. You will be required to assist with the selection of inclusion/exclusion criteria and data extraction from scientific papers, liaise with authors, help to create a database for a meta-analysis, synthesise the results and disseminate the findings via scientific papers in high impact journal and presentations to policy and practice partners.
A postgraduate qualification in exercise science, health or a related research field is essential, as is experience of undertaking literature searches, synthesising research evidence and of analysing quantitative data using a statistical package such as SPSS. You must be self-motivated with excellent communication skills, good team work skills and must be able to prioritise your work in order to meet deadlines.
The HSCI prioritises research and has good links with clinicians at local hospitals. The Tees Valley is an enjoyable place to live – in the heart of the North of England’s coastline and countryside, with easy access to Durham, Newcastle and York.
