Edge Hill University is one of the most significant providers of education, training and research for the children’s workforce in the country. Edge Hill has a reputation for, and a commitment to, outstanding practice that supports high level outcomes for children and works with a variety of partners and employers to develop and deliver programmes that meet the needs of teachers and the wider children’s workforce both now and for the future. In its most recent Ofsted inspection the Faculty was awarded 33 grade ones (outstanding) out of 33 possible graded aspects across the three areas, Primary and Early Years, Secondary and Post-compulsory Education and Training.

Edge Hill University is committed to producing excellent research and has particular strengths in evidence-based practice and applying the results of research to professional practice. Tutors are encouraged to engage in all aspects of the research process - reading, undertaking, analysing and publishing research - both to inform their teaching and to develop a research career. New tutors are encouraged to participate in the life of the Faculty’s research, either within the Professional Practice Research Group, which is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute for Professional Practice or the Centre for Learner Identity Studies, which organises an annual conference and a regular series of seminars. Initial Teacher Training at Edge Hill has at its core schools, colleges and expert practitioners. In addition to initial teacher training the Faculty has a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate school-led professional development programmes focused on improvement through partnership and underpinned by research.

At the heart of everything that the Faculty delivers is partnership, impact within the classroom, the student experience and leading research. The Faculty is ambitious with a strong team of expert practitioners comprising both university-based and school-based colleagues. As the Faculty of Education continues to grow and develop it is looking to attract new colleagues with varying degrees of experience and expertise in teacher education.

The Faculty is keen to appoint an outstanding professional who is flexible, creative and willing to take a full involvement in various activities and initiatives within the Faculty of Education. Highly effective leadership and communication skills, excellent managerial and organisational abilities, an enthusiastic and well-informed teaching style and a strong understanding of the student experience are essential for this post.
