Postdoctoral Research Assistant

A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Molecular Microbiology, College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. This Wellcome Trust-funded project will be carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Ryan and will be for 2 years. The Ryan group is interested in the role that bacterial interspecies signalling plays during polymicrobial infection [for example please see Twomey et al., (2012) ISME J. 6: 939-50; Ryan and Dow, (2011) Trends Microbiol. 19: 145-52]. In order to shed light on the molecular mechanisms underpinning such signalling processes the group is deploying a multidisciplinary approach utilising various genetic, biochemical, structural biology and high-throughout sequencing techniques. The group is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join this team.

The ideal candidate should have or be able to demonstrate the following:

• A PhD with solid academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognised peer-reviewed journal (published in the last twelve months or in-press).

• Proven experience in protein biochemistry and molecular biology.
• Proven proficiency with genetic manipulation of Gram-negative microorganisms and mutant construction.
• Experience with tissue culture is encouraged.
• Knowledge of high-throughout sequencing techniques would be desirable.
• Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.

• Excellent record keeping and communication skills are essential.
