Rubber friction on snow

A PhD is available to work on a project on rubber friction on snow for automotive applications. The project is in close collaboration with a large international company. The project is to work on testing friction of rubber on snow and will involve: novel experimental work on snow, characterisation of the snow surface, friction testing, interpretation of the experimental results and analytical materials modelling. You will join an innovative group working on ice mechanics, tribology and materials. Our work includes: fundamentals of ice and polymer friction, snow mechanical properties and winter sports engineering.

The studentship will suit a well-qualified person with a good honours degree in physical sciences – physics, materials science, engineering etc.

Due to funding restrictions only UK and EU citizens are eligible to apply for this studentship, which includes 'home’ student fees.
