The School of Political Science and Sociology is one of the largest academic units in the University. It is involved in the teaching of over 1500 undergraduate students, has four professional Masters programmes with 106 students and 58 Ph.D. students. Staff in the School are active in research and publication in four research clusters: Power, Conflict and Ideologies; Children, Youth and Families; Governance and Sustainable Development; and Global Women’s Studies. Applications are welcome for this post from individuals, who possess a (normally) Ph.D. in Political Theory or Philosophy, have undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience and a research record focused on children and families that includes publications and leading research projects. The person appointed will have Lead Researcher level experience in both Quantitative and Qualitative Research and Evaluation Projects in the Children and Families field, and will contribute to the research and publication activity of the School through the Child and Family Research Centre (CFRC). The CRFC engages in research, evaluation and service design relating to practice, policy and interventions in the lives of children. Research undertaken is strongly connected to applied work for children and families and relevant to a broad range of stakeholders including service users, policymakers, politicians, service managers and front-line staff. The context for the CFRC’s research agenda is greatly influenced by the need for evidence-based services and by practical, outcome-focused considerations. Only candidates whose research expertise indicates that they can contribute to the research agenda of the CFRC will be shortlisted for this post.

Salary: At Lecturer Below the Bar level
€36,230 p.a. to €51,104 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer Below the Bar scale in line with current Government pay policy)
(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
