Research Environmental Engineer
Newcastle University -School of Civil Engineering & Geosciences
Salary: £27,854, rising to £36,298
Closing date: 1 June 2013
An environmental engineer/scientist is sought to join a multidisciplinary team studying biological waste-to-energy options for agricultural, food, and domestic wastes. The goal of the work is to assess pre- and post-treatment options needed to optimise biogas yields for clean combustion, and potentially recover nitrogen and phosphorous. The position is very lab oriented; therefore previous experience in operating anaerobic and related bioreactors, physiochemical monitoring methods and some molecular microbiology (e.g., qPCR) are essential. Finally, you must be capable of multi-tasking and be able to assist junior students on sub-projects.
This position requires someone with a PhD (or be close to submission) who is able to work with experts in combustion, transport, and building systems to integrate results into larger energy management plans. Overall, we want an individual that can learn and implement skills quickly and aspires to independent research in the future.
Formal inquiries should be made to Prof David Graham (david.graham@ncl.ac.uk 0191-222-7930).
