About the Post

The Advice and Counselling Service offers a range of confidential, professional services to support students with emotional, psychological, financial, legal or welfare concerns, which may inhibit academic achievement or participation. The Service brings together staff from various professional disciplines including: Welfare Advice, Counselling, Group Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychiatry.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and flexible counsellor or counselling psychologist to deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to students with a variety of presenting problems including anxiety disorders, phobias, procrastination, self-esteem etc. You will work closely with our welfare advisors, psychodynamic counsellors, group therapists and consultant psychiatrists.

Responsibilities

You must have a qualification as a Counselling Psychologist, or hold a post graduate qualification as a Counsellor or Psychotherapist plus additional specialist training in CBT and be eligible for BABCP accreditation.

Some of your clinical experience must be within an institutional setting, preferably with young people/adolescents and you must be experienced at adapting conventional CBT protocols for brief work, typically 6-12 appointments. You should also have an understanding and appreciation of psychoanalytic concepts and how they apply to clinical work and team/institutional processes. Well developed IT and social media skills would also be advantageous, as would skills and experience of running psychoeducational groups and workshops on issues such as anxiety management. It is essential that you are able to work on a Wednesday.

Remuneration & Benefits

A start date is anticipated as September 2013.
The post is full time and permanent. Salary will be in the range £34,283 - £ 40,335 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
