Industry-based PhD with GlaxoSmithKline


Our industry-based PhD programme has now been further expanded. Starting from October 2013 we can now offer up to a total of 13 PhD studentships.

Studentships are of 3.5 years in duration and are available in :-

  • Medicinal and process chemistry - focused on synthetic organic chemistry, drug design and drug development
  • Computational chemistry and informatics, Protein Crystallography, Protein-Ligand Biophysics
  • Students are registered with the University of Strathclyde and are co-supervised by chemistry academics and a senior scientist from GlaxoSmithKline R&D.
  • The successful candidates will be based at the GlaxoSmithKline R&D site at Stevenage and will have the opportunity to spend at least three months of the studentship at the University of Strathclyde.

For this outstanding training and development opportunity in chemistry, you will need:

  • A very good MSci or MChem degree, or equivalent, in chemistry.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical skills, together with high levels of innovation, creativity, and ability to solve complex problems.
  • To be highly motivated for chemistry and science.
  • Strong communication skills.
