We invite applications for a fully funded PhD position, starting on 30th September 2013, in Computer Science at the University of Bath, as part of the OAK (Outdoor Asset Capture) project.

The University of Bath and University College London are engaged in joint research designed to address the problem of acquiring three dimensional models of outdoor environments and objects, including urban, semi-urban, and natural environments. The aim is to acquire outdoor assets at a range of scales from a few millimetres through the kilometres. The research is aimed at the basic needed of the creative sector. Six industrial leaders covering games, films, and broadcast, are involved through an advisory panel.

We seek a highly motivated and academically excellent individual to study for a PhD degree. The focus of study is negotiable, but areas of interest include classification, non-rigid tracking, and model fitting.

Funding Notes:

The successful applicant will receive a funding package for three years, which will cover their PhD tuition fees (Home/EU rate), a training support fee of £1,000/annum and a tax-free stipend of £13,726/annum (2013/14 rate).

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an excellent academic record with particular emphasis on mathematics, programming, and the ability to conduct experiments. They will join a team of permanent staff, plus 4 post-doctoral staff at Bath and 2 more at UCL. They must be able to work both alone and as part of a multi-site team, and be effective communicators with researchers in relevant industries.
