With government funding from the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), we are offering an exciting opportunity to work on a new approach for protection of digital media content downloaded via the Internet. In this project the main focus will be digital music files and some industrial partners will be involved. 

The University of Surrey has a growing reputation in the area of multimedia security, with a significant research profile and strong industrial links. You will be employed as one of the two Research Fellows (one 100% and the other 30%) working towards some algorithms and a prototype system of a new IP protection solution for digital media. You will work closely with our industrial partners. 

You should have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering with a focus on Signal Processing particularly Audio Processing and Coding, Multimedia Security (Digital Watermarking, Information Hiding), or a closely related topic. You will need to be able to demonstrate advanced programming skills in MATLAB (and C/C++ for the 100% post), a good understanding of audio coding formats, previous experience of working on audio processing algorithms, be demonstrably motivated, and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills as required for such a collaborative project. Candidates who do not fulfil the above criteria but have strong technical skills and sufficient experience in related fields will also be considered. 

The successful candidate should be available to start ASAP, and both posts are expected for 6 months.
