EngD Studentship
Driver behaviour modelling
University of Warwick -Warwick Manufacturing Group
There has been much progress made towards CO2 reductions in the automotive industry through the use of technology, but one of the main sources of inefficiency remains- the driver. There are a range of possible driving styles but no consistent way to characterise these, and understand how they might evolve through a journey; for example the same driver may accelerate aggressively but cruise at a relatively low speed. Research is needed in order to develop a consistent data capture and characterisation scheme to be able to determine ultimately the magnitude of the effect of the driver on fuel economy. Ultimately a fully characterised driver model is required which can be used on desktop simulations and hardware in the loop testing to determine the instantaneous and long term effect of driver behaviour on fuel economy. This work is relevant for both certification cycle and real world effects.
