The MRC Prion Unit is a world-leading research centre studying prion and other neurodegenerative diseases. It is embedded within the UCL Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and housed in excellent purpose-built facilities. Unit programmes are highly multi-disciplinary and span structural and molecular biology, human and mouse genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics, and clinical research. The post-holder will be required to undertake varied work associated with long term projects to characterise the pathology of prion disease in humans and mice using immunohistochemistry. Some of the work will be carried out at Containment Level III, requiring full knowledge and adherence to specialised safety procedures. The post will involve responsibility for the preparation of fresh/fixed material, tissue sectioning, cataloguing, archiving and immunostaining of these unique samples.

The successful candidate will have a science degree (2;2 minimum) in a relevant subject or qualified to HNC/ HND level in Biological Sciences (Merit award minimum) and be proficient in laboratory techniques having gained experience in a scientific or medical environment.

Experience in handling data is essential, as is a meticulous and precise approach to work.
