The MRC Prion Unit is a world-leading research centre studying prion and other neurodegenerative diseases. It is embedded within the UCL Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and housed in excellent purpose-built facilities. Unit programmes are highly multi-disciplinary and span structural and molecular biology, human and mouse genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics, and clinical research. The post-holder will be required to undertake varied work associated with long term projects to characterise the pathology of prion disease in humans and mice using immunohistochemistry. Some of the work will be carried out at Containment Level III, requiring full knowledge and adherence to specialised safety procedures. The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day management, organisation and supervision of the laboratory under the direction of the Histology laboratory manager.
The successful candidate will have a science degree (2.1 minimum) or equivalent in a relevant subject and significant experience in working in scientific or medical environment. Experience in handling data is essential, as is a meticulous and precise approach to work.
