The University of Sheffield is an internationally leading centre of excellence in biology, with world-class research facilities. Biology research at Sheffield was ranked joint 3rd in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and the University of Sheffield 66th and 101st in the world (QS World University Rankings 2012 and THE World University rankings 2012-13). We also have anoutstanding reputation for the quality and breadth of expertise in biological teaching and are ranked 4th in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2012).  The Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB) is seeking to further our excellent undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by appointing committed University Teachers to contribute to the design, delivery and co-ordination of teaching programmes. Recruitment will be based on scientific experience in research/teaching, and the successful candidate will be expected to enhance and develop our existing teaching strengths.

Applications are invited from experienced researchers/teachers who can demonstrate an excellent record relating to their career stage, and who wish to play an active role in the delivery of high-quality and innovative teaching.

Our world-class research is broad based, covering Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Structural Biology and Biochemistry. Our research and teaching infrastructure is excellent, with recently renovated research and teaching laboratories, and modern lecture theatres.

MBB is located centrally in the University adjacent to our sister departments of Biomedical Science and Animal and Plant Sciences. Together the biology departments host around 100 academic staff and research fellows and teach 1,500 students. The three departments are renowned for cutting edge research and have internationally recognised strengths in evolutionary biology and genetics, cell and developmental biology, stem cell biology, behaviour and neuroscience, human health and disease, plant science, microbiology, ecology and environmental biology and structural and quantitative biology.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of research/teaching in biochemistry or genetics. They will be expected to design, prepare, co-ordinate and deliver teaching and assessments to our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
