The Department is seeking a full-time research assistant to work on a research project funded by the Leverhulme Trust to Dr Meesha Warmington, Dr Selma Babayiğit (University of the West of England) and Professor Graham Hitch entitled “Executive control, working memory and literacy skills in bilingual children”. The funded research plans to investigate the roles of executive processes and oral language in reading comprehension skills in bilingual (Hindi-English) children aged 8-11 years. The post will primarily involve conducting assessments of children in the school environment and liaising with schools and parents.
You should have a BSc in Psychology, experience of working with educational professionals and/or in an educational environment. Additionally, knowledge of bilingual linguistic-cognitive processing and spoken and/or written Hindi, and conducting assessments of children are desirable. The project will involve extensive testing in schools throughout the UK and will therefore require overnight stay in locations away from York.
As this post may involve working with children and/or vulnerable adults, the University is legally obliged to ensure a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure record is obtained by the appointee prior to the commencement of employment. The offer of appointment will, therefore, be made subject to this requirement.
Starting salary is £29,541 a year. The appointment is available from 1 July 2013 for a period of 24 months.
