Post Summary
The Anatomy Discipline, School of Medicine, invites applications for an Assistant Professor on a 3 year contract. The post will actively contribute to the education, research, innovation and curriculum activities of the Discipline of Anatomy and is located in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Pearse Street.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD and an accomplished track record of research in the field of Anatomy. The post-holder will be expected to obtain competitive grant funding for research, and to contribute to a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. S/he will contribute to postgraduate training in Anatomy through the supervison of research students.
This appointment offers the successful candidate an opportunity to acquire a detailed knowledge of teaching Clinical Anatomy, either as the foundation for an academic career or as experience toward a Clinical Tutor post.
Background to the Post
The Anatomy Discipline teaches a large number of students, the majority of which are undergraduate (approx 650), from various disciplines and a small number of postgraduate students. Historically, the primary focus of the Discipline has been teaching, however, with the 2011 move to new facilities, there is an increased focus on research to achieve a more balanced equilibrium. The Discipline also hosts surgical training courses and graduate practical anatomy refresher courses to generate income. All members of staff contribute to all aspects of the running of the Discipline.
Standard duties of the Post
The core activities of the post holder will be:
- Teaching.
- Examining and administering examinations.
- Research and Innovation.
- Contributing to the Discipline’s curriculum development.
- Supporting the Discipline’s income generation activities

Qualifications
- Applicants will have an honours degree in a Health Sciences subject (Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Speech and Language Studies, Anatomy, Physiology, Neuroscience).
- Applicants will have a PhD in a relevant field.
