Year Tutor and Strand Leader

BA (Hons) Fine Art

Leeds College of Art

Salary: £26,538 - £28,152 Pro Rata (£21,230 - £22,522)
Hours: 0.8 FTE

Leeds College of Art has played a central role in providing specialist education in art, design and the crafts for more than 160 years and has developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students.

An opportunity has arisen for the role of Year Tutor and Strand Leader on the Fine Art Media Strand of our BA (Hons) Fine Art degree programme.

The Fine Art Media strand engages with technologies that confront people daily in the world – photography, film, video, text, book, electronic and digital technologies. Students in this strand explore media and ideas with a diverse approach and are encouraged to embrace appropriate forms of resolution such as installation, performance, screenings, or sound works as they engage with the contemporary currency of these forms of communication.

The programme aims to develop the student’s studio practice with an emphasis on craft and skill whilst enabling them to position themselves and their practice in terms of art history and critical thought, equipping them with the tools to map and research their own concerns. This ongoing development over three levels of study is explored in relation to an informed, considered understanding and application of a professional public facing experience. The programme encourages the students to test the boundaries and relationships between different media, or work intensively in a chosen media.

To be successful in applying for this role you should be a fine art practitioner whose research practice is driven by technologies at the core or this subject strand including photography, film, video, text, book, electronic and digital technologies. You should be competent in exhibition practices and able to lead in the areas of installation, performance and screenings. An informed and extensive knowledge of the theoretical drivers current in the Fine Art media context is essential.

You will have experience of teaching undergraduate students and be able to teach Fine Art Media production and practices within an established Fine Art programme. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including workshops, individual tutorials, seminars and lectures with a large audience. Contributing to the core drawing element of the programme is also a requirement.

Full details of the essential and desirable criteria for this role can be found in the job description.
