Following the creation of Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry we aim to build up the critical mass of clinical academics in selected areas of research in Plymouth, in line with the strategic aims. This appointment is at the heart of plans to further develop strong mental health research.

The post is designed to support a clinical research interest in mental health from a psychiatrically trained physician with an outstanding track record in mental health related research. The precise area of research experience and future development has flexibility, depending on the interests and skills of the applicant. The successful applicant will build a collaborative programme of research which will be central to the Centre for Clinical Trials and Health Research as well as a key part of on-going CLAHRC activity.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual at Professorial or Reader level to join and complement our existing successful research teams. The clinical role will be as a consultant liaison psychiatrist for older adults. As a distinguished academic, you will have an outstanding reputation in research and be an inspirational leader with excellent communication skills and a willingness to promote change and enterprise. You will be responsible for the development of an internationally recognised/world leading programme of applied clinical mental health research.

Applications are welcomed from individuals with a PhD or equivalent in the area of medical science relevant to the field of mental health and experience of clinical working in psychiatry. You will also have a proven track record of publications related to mental health as well as successful research income generation.

Appointments will be made to Plymouth University. The appointee will have an honorary contract with Plymouth Community Healthcare. The post holder will be appointed on the consultant clinical academic salary scale, at a point determined by experience and seniority and the agreement of a formal job plan within the terms of the clinical academic contract (currently salary scale £74,504 - £100,446). This post will come with a start-up package and a generous relocation package is also available.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
