The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) recruits a (full-time) Senior Programme Advisor in International Conflict and Security Policy to join its international team of approximately 70 staff. This is a key position within the GCSP and attached to Leadership in Conflict Management Programme. It is based in Geneva but includes occasional travel abroad.

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Programme Advisor will be responsible and accountable for professional training events, the development and delivery of policy research and publications, specialist meetings and discussion fora, public events.
  • The Senior Programme Advisor will be responsible and accountable for providing leadership and expertise across the GCSP and to contribute to its mission and goals in an impartial and inclusive manner, and contribute to a stimulating multi-cultural adult learning environment.

Main tasks include:

  • Initiate and contribute to overall GCSP programme and project activities (such as courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and hosted events, public discussions);
  • Lead, initiate, design and implement impact oriented contributions to the Programme and GCSP (including courses, workshops, dialogue events, conferences, policy papers, conference reports);
  • Contribute and represent the Programme and GCSP at events organised by GCSP partner organisations and institutions and attend other Programme and GCSP relevant conferences;
  • Represent the GCSP and maintain and develop a network of Programme and GCSP relevant experts;
  • Initiate and contribute to the development of comprehensive and sustainable strategies towards achieving the Programme’s objectives;
  • Lead and contribute to results-based Programme and project design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Establish project budgets, identify funding sources and contribute to the financial management of projects;
  • Coordinate and support the administrative preparation, implementation and follow-up of Programme and project activities.

Profile
Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in a field directly relevant to the GCSP’s area of interest and competence;
  • Specific geographical specialisation and expertise (with a preference for Asia and/or Sub-Saharan Africa);
  • At least fifteen years of professional experience and demonstrable expertise in international, human and emerging security issues;
  • Experience and demonstrable expertise in peacebuilding and peacekeeping;
  • Demonstrable expertise and interest in the international normative and legal frameworks related to security concerns and related policy development;
  • Professional experience and expertise in strategic security policy-making and implementation in a governmental, military, or international institution;
  • Experience in project, programme and course curriculum design, implementation and delivery within a professional and adult learning environment;
  • Access to a wide international network of experts;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and proficiency in French.

  • Significant peer reviewed publications
  • Fundraising experience
  • Demonstrable experience with the media
  • Other language skills

The Senior Programme Advisor is under the overall supervision of and reports to the Head of Programme. A Senior Programme Advisor may also serve as line manager to other team members.

Remuneration: The GCSP offers a competitive salary that is commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
