Applications are invited for a post of Clinical Lecturer/Specialty Registrar (ST1 +) in Medical Virology in the Department of Pathology jointly with PHE Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory at Addenbrooke's Hospital to take up the position as soon as possible or from August 2013. This post is a fixed-term appointment for up to 4 years in the first instance with a run-through specialty training programme leading to CCT in Medical Virology. The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this programme has the required educational and Dean's approval and a National Training Number allocated to the East Deanery (Health Education East of England).
In order to be considered, applicants must be medically qualified with a PhD degree, eligible for full registration with the GMC and hold a current licence to practice at time of taking the appointment, and able to show evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent, or of any stage of specialty training in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice.
The Clinical Lectureship is aimed at doctors who show outstanding potential for continuing a career in academic medicine. It provides opportunities for postdoctoral academic training and facilitates applications for further research funding (50% of time), and for specialty clinical training in virology (50%). The field of research will be determined by the successful applicant in discussion with an Academic Supervisor and the Head of Department. The speciality training will take place in PHE Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory, following RCPath training curriculum for medical virology and will be determined by the successful applicant in discussion with an Educational Supervisor and Training Programme Director. The successful candidate will be entitled for an honorary clinical contract with the Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
