Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
University of Leeds -Engineering
Job Summary
Research Fellow - Development of efficient and effective robust design optimization techniques for aerothermal design systems
(Full Time, Fixed Term, 36 months)
The successful applicant will start on 1st June 2013 (or shortly after) for a fixed term of 36 months. You will work as part of a team involved in a major TSB-sponsored project SILOET (Strategic Investment in Low Carbon Engine Technology). The major industrial partner is Rolls-Royce as well as several universities. The role will focus on the development of efficient and effective robust design optimization techniques for aerothermal design systems that will be based on the use of gradient-enhanced metamodels also addressing stochastic and multi-objective problems while handling a mixture of continuous and discrete (often integer) design variables. You should be a highly motivated person capable of working within a team at Leeds University as well as within a larger group of partners in the SILOET project. As part of this project, there also can be an opportunity of a secondment to the CFD Methods department of Rolls-Royce in Derby.
It is essential that you have a PhD (or equivalent) in a related area and experience in the development of techniques and software for design optimization problems. It is also essential that you have experience in CFD at the software user’s level and good communication skills both written and verbal. It is highly desirable that you have knowledge of turbomachinery, preferably in an industrial environment.
University Grade 7 (£30,424 - £36,298 p.a.) or for an exceptionally well qualified candidate, University Grade 8 (£37,382- £39,649 p.a.) dependent on experience.
Informal enquires to Prof. Vassili Toropov, Professor of Aerospace and Structural Engineering, tel+44 (0)11334 32408, email v.v.toropov@leeds.ac.uk
Closing Date: 30 May 2013
