Your main responsibility will be to lead a small group of researchers on a long term industrial research program investigating the chemical modification of polysaccharides and cellulose nano-fibres which could lead to the development of new biopolymer based materials.  You will also be expected to actively seek additional research funding on a National and European level, oversee and contribute to the publication of results in peer-reviewed scientific literature, and prepare reports for stakeholders.

You may also be required to supervise post graduate research students.

Candidates must possess a PhD in a relevant field of chemistry and possess demonstrable expertise in polysaccharide chemistry or closely related subject.  You must also have a track record of supervising postgraduate researchers as part of a team. You must have a good track record of peer reviewed journal articles (at least four articles) and have relevant experience in a related laboratory environment and the writing up of research results and progress reports.  The ability to plan and undertake a scheduled programme of research is essential. In addition, you must have ability with, and awareness of, laboratory health & safety procedures.  A flexible approach and ability to adjust to varying workload, together with good communication skills and team working abilities are also required.
