The section European Law of the Public Law Institute offers courses in the Bachelor’s Law Programme, the LL.M. Programme in European Law and the Advanced LL.M. Programme in European and International Business Law. Our research is part of the faculty research programme ‘Securing the Rule of Law in a World of Multi-Level Jurisdiction’.

The section European Law has a vacancy for: University Lecturer European Law (38 hours per week).

Requirements

  • Degree in law;
  • A completed PhD in the field of European Law;
  • Broad general knowledge of the law of the European Union;
  • Excellent research qualities, demonstrated for example by (international) publications;
  • Specific research interests falling within one of the core areas of research of the Europa Institute, preferably in the field of economic regulation (internal market, competition law, EMU). For more information see: http://www.law.leidenuniv.nl/org/publiekrecht/europainstituut/
  • Extensive experience and affinity with teaching and coordinating courses;
  • Excellent teaching qualities, demonstrated for example by excellent teaching evaluations;
  • You have acquired the certificate ‘basiskwalificatie onderwijs’ (basic teaching qualification) or are prepared to achieve this;
  • Excellent English, spoken and written; command of the Dutch language is an advantage.

Tasks

  • Giving lectures and holding tutorials within the various law programmes, as well as coordinating teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes;
  • Independent performance of research in the field of European Law and publication of the results;
  • Preparation of subsidy applications to NWO and other such funding organisations;
  • Assisting in management tasks within the section and faculty;
  • Contributing towards research projects for external clients.

We offer

  • A position as a University Lecturer in the university function classification system;
  • This is a full-time position;
  • Initial period of employment in this position is for 1 year. This may be extended if the employee performs well;
  • Salary scale in accordance with the CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) for Dutch universities. Gross monthly salary is minimum € 3.227,-- and maximum € 5.020,-- (scale 11 or 12). Salary scale depends on education and experience;
  • Starting date: Summer 2013.

Within our policy framework on quality, almost all academic staff at the Faculty of Law have a PhD and have met the requirement for the advanced research qualification. They also make a significant contribution to the faculty research programme.
