Deputy Head of Major Giving

University of Birmingham -Development, Alumni and Business Engagement

Starting salary is normally in the range £37,382 to £44,607. With potential progression once in post to £50,186 a year.

Are you looking to develop your fundraising career with a face-to-face Major Gift job at a prestigious organisation?

The Major Gift team are all committed, passionate and each has their own fundraising approach. Together the Major Gift, Alumni Relations, Regular Giving and Business Engagement teams form the Development, Alumni and Business Engagement Division (DABE). Our hard work has earned the respect of our colleagues across the University, and the support of senior leadership is demonstrated by significant investment in expanding our team. Over the next four years our aim is to increase the value of new philanthropic gifts acquired from £7m in 2011-12 to £10m in 2014-15.

To support this aim, we are looking for a Deputy Head of Major Giving to join our award winning team. You’ll have a strong track record of major gift fundraising, and will have personally solicited a number of transformational gifts (certainly five figure gifts, potentially also at the six figure level); you will also ideally have experience of managing small teams. You will be ambitious to develop your fundraising skills, and also to lead others and this position may be a stepping stone to future leadership roles at Birmingham or elsewhere. You will be committed to the vision of the University of Birmingham and to the development of private support to the University and to higher education in general.  You will work in a team who place a high value on personal and team performance and on personal development through rigorous training, both though experience and coaching.

You will be responsible for raising significant sums of money and ensuring that the members of your team also meet their key performance indicators. Working to targets, you’ll build relationships with potential supporters, including alumni of the University, major philanthropists (individuals and corporate donors) and some new constituencies. Internally, you’ll work closely with our academic leaders, key researchers and senior volunteers; and will be able to translate with passion complex information into a compelling case for support for potential donors in both a verbal and written form.

Based on the campus, you’ll enjoy the benefits of occasional international travel, the USS pension scheme, excellent sporting and cultural facilities and a generous holiday allowance. The University is situated on a beautiful 250 acre parkland campus with excellent transport links including our own rail station; by train we are around 1 hr 45 from London and around 2 hrs from Manchester.
