Royal Holloway, University of London -School of Biological Sciences
Full-time, fixed term (7 months) Salary is £33,465 per annum inclusive of London Allowance
Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of Biological Sciences.
This post is funded by the Leverhulme Research Grant: “Are bumblebees the Extended Phenotype of nematodes? A transcriptomics approach”. This project combines the evolutionary parasitology expertise of Dr Mark Brown at Royal Holloway, University of London, and the evolutionary molecular biology expertise of Dr Seirian Sumner at the University of Bristol. It will use molecular and parasitological techniques to investigate a key question in the evolutionary ecology of host-parasite systems., using an ecologically and economically important host-parasite system. Results will provide novel insights into the mechanisms of parasite manipulation of host behaviour.
You will have experience and confidence in molecular techniques, with evidence of competence in RNA and DNA extraction, and preferably the production of high-quality RNA for next-generation sequencing techniques. You will have excellent time-management skills and motivation, and the ability to work without supervision. An ability to communicate and work well with others is essential. You should have evidence of scientific productivity as well as an undergraduate degree, a submitted PhD thesis or relevant experience.
This is a full time post, immediately available or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period of 7 months. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
